Kincardine mayor recalls the founding of Pine River Watershed Initiative Network

Dear Members of the Pine River Watershed Initiative (PRWIN) and all Supporters:

If our trip out west to see our family had not been booked a few months ago, I would not have missed the PRWIN celebration last week for anything. 
 

I have wonderful memories of my years with the PRWIN - our first grant to do projects; the wonderful support we had from so many different sources - the landowners, the beach associations, the local 4-H,  the Township of Huron-Kinloss, Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority (SVCA), Maitland Valley Conservation Authority (MVCA), Environment Canada staff like Kay Kim and Jeannette Anderson, also Ted Briggs from the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, and all our local media who faithfully promoted our work and accomplishments so that we could attract more support.

Of course, the team effort by the PRWIN board was marvellous. My list is incomplete - there were other volunteers and organizations that contributed as well. 
 

The PRWIN is the result of the power of community. We worked long hours sometimes as volunteers but we had fun and made new friends. Our reward will continue for years as we watch our tree-planting projects mature and other projects promote clean water and a healthier ecosystem within the Pine River watershed and in other watersheds. 
 

I will continue to follow the PRWIN activities with great interest and wish the current board members and staff all the best in the future!
