Former peacekeeper is reviewing officer at Kincardine Air Cadets inspection
Shane Hotchkiss of Kincardine, former Canadian peacekeeper with the United Nations Force in Cyprus, was the reviewing officer at the 28th annual Kincardine Air Cadets, Typhoon Squadron 183, inspection, held Sunday, May 29, at the Davidson Centre Arena.

The review began with the squadron forming up, marching on of the flags, the arrival of the dignitaries, and the singing of "O Canada."

Hotchkiss then inspected the troops, with the assistance of captain Sandra Benbow, commanding officer of the squadron, and senior officers WO1 Craig Tyler, WO2 Chris Pierce, and WO2 Kalvin Stares.

Besides the inspection of the troops, the annual review included demonstrations and drills, and the presentation of the following awards:
 
  • Best First Year Cadet - LAC Julia Ferrier
  • Most Proficient Senior NCO - WO2 Kalvin Stares
  • Most Proficient Junior NCO - Corporal Josiah Brown
  • Best Dress and Deportment - Flight Sergeant Alex Pierce
  • Marksmanship Award - Flight Sergeant Alex Pierce
  • Keith Pladsen Award for Most-Improved Cadet - Sergeant Keira Hazzard
  • Most Fit Cadet Award - Male - LAC Jacob Sylvester
  • Most Fit Cadet Award - Female -Corporal Naomi Brown
  • Esprit de Corps Captain Clift Award - WO2 Chris Pierce
  • Lord Strathcona Award - WO2 Kalvin Stares
  • Jessica Pool Memorial Award -  Cadet Katelyn Chilton
  • Warrant Officer Priest Award - WO1 Craig Tyler

Benbow had another award to present - commissioned officer's papers to 2Lt Chris Dick.

Unfortunately for Dick, who had challenged the troop earlier this year to have shinier shoes than the commanding officer, deputy commanding officer, and himself at the review, he lost that challenge and was doused in ice water by the senior officers.
