Local team raises more than $15,500 in Gutsy Walk for Crohn's and Colitis research

"It's All Gone to Shitz," based in Ripley and Kincardine, raised a total of $15,566.25 for the Grey Bruce Gutsy Walk, placing it in the top 10 fund-raising teams across Canada. The Grey-Bruce event was held Sunday morning at Walkerton District Community School in support of Crohn's and Colitis Canada.

Walking the laps at the school track, as part of "It's All Gone to Shitz," were captain Emily Lotton, Bev Fry, Abby MacDonald, Harold Maurer, Patty Crow, Ron and Gail Lotton, Kathleen and Erin Ackert, Kendra VanHardeveld, and Kathy, Logan and Carter Drennan.

Under the threat of rain and cool winds, more than 70 walkers took part, raising a total of $28,000 through on-line and off-line pledges, a silent auction, and raffle.

The Hanover Knights of Columbus Council 5607 contributed by running a barbecue for the event, and then donated the $102 they raised, to the Gutsy Walk cause.

Various businesses in Grey, Bruce, and Huron counties provided items for the raffle, participant bags, and silent auction and all of the businesses were acknowledged at the walk and on social media (Facebook and Twitter).

Local honourary chairperson, McKenna Marsdin, was on hand to lead the walk. She also brought words of welcome, as did Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson and Grey-Bruce-Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker.

The committee and community of Grey Bruce look forward to expanding the 2017 walk.
