A total of 23 walkers raised about $6,000 at the Walk For Memories held Saturday morning at Huron Heights Public School, Kincardine.
People attended from the Kincardine and Saugeen Shores area, walking in memory of a loved one or in honour of someone who is still battling Alzheimer Disease. All funds raised go to the Alzheimer Society of Grey-Bruce to support affected individuals, their families and their caregivers, in the community.
Besides Kincardine, there were walks held at West Hill Secondary School in Owen Sound, Hanover Heights Community School in Hanover, and Beaver Valley Community School in Thornbury. All four events raised a total of $58,000, said Bill Twaddle, community development co-ordinator for the Alzheimer Society of Grey-Bruce.
The walkers and 20 volunteers in Kincardine enjoyed the music of a couple of local bands, including "Between the Rafters" which features Dave Kinsman of Port Elgin, Joe Gaul of Southampton, John Brush of Port Elgin and Katrena Johnston of Kincardine.
