Saturday night’s game in Mount Forest was a gunfight, with a total of 13 goals finding the twine as the Pats claimed the victory by a final of 7-6.
The Pats jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period, but a pair of Kincardine goals 15 seconds apart tied things up at 2-2, heading into the second period. Sam Feagan opened the scoring for the 'Dogs on the powerplay at the 17:56 mark with Labrosse credited with the lone assist, followed 15 seconds later when Wiejak finished off a great play from Morrison and Shawn Moore.
The 'Dogs then took the lead for the first time in the contest when Dalton Hnatko was set up by Satosek for a short-handed marker just 1:06 into the second period. Mount Forest tied things up at the 2:33 mark, but then Matthew Mah fed the puck to Moore, who returned the 'Dogs to the lead at the 6:03 mark.
The Pats notched a pair of back-to-back goals to continue the back-and-forth battle before Wiejak scored his second of the game at the 18:34 mark. The goal saw Smailes and Mah credited with the helpers, sending the game to the third tied, 5-5.
The Pats stung the 'Dogs for another pair of goals before the period was half over, and the 'Dogs fell short as the only offence generated in the third was Feagan’s second goal of the game from Hnatko at the 15:12 mark.
Sunday night, back at the Davidson Centre, the 'Dogs opened the scoring just 50 seconds into the game when Wiejak converted a pass from Mike Osadca. Mount Forest had a number of chances to tie the game in the first, but Kincardine goalie Mitch Campbell was there with key saves time and time again, sending the game to the second with Kincardine holding a slim 1-0 lead.
The second frame saw Kincardine continue to run into penalty issues with the officials, much to the dismay of the home crowd, but the Bulldogs killed off three consecutive penalties before getting a chance of their own with the man-advantage. Kincardine needed only 1:23 to click on the powerplay as Feagan put the finishing touches on another Osadca play, increasing the 'Dogs lead to 2-0. Mount Forest clawed one back, sending the game to the third with Kincardine leading, 2-1.
The third period was a tension-filled session, but Kincardine met each and every Mount Forest rush and turned the Pats away, with Chad Simpson putting the finishing touches on the win for the Bulldogs with an empty-net goal at 18:59.
