Estate Planning seminar slated for Oct. 24 in Belgrave

Nancy Ackert, in association with Allied Associates LLP, is offering a seminar with the focus on getting your estate-planning right the first time.

"Estate Planning Mistakes" is slated for Monday, Oct. 24, at the Belgrave Community Centre, 12 Queen St., Belgrave (Highway 4, south of Wingham).

Registration is 6:30 p.m., with guest speaker, Peter Wouters, director of tax and estate planning for Empire Life, at 7 p.m., followed by pumpkin pie, apple cider and coffee at 8:30 p.m.

Ackert says the idea for the seminar was prompted by the increased incidence of people not planning properly.

"We see a lot of the same estate planning mistakes made over and over again by people who either fail to plan properly or who use 'do-it-yourself' forms or easy answers to save money," she says. "In either case, money is not saved; the process costs more time, effort and a lot more money. It also causes unneeded headache and heartache.

"What’s more, many people only go through the exercise once and typically, anything you do only once, you’re likely to do poorly. That’s why it’s important for people to engage with financial advisors and  estate planners to help them get it right the first time and periodically stress-test the plans and solutions."

Wouters' highly-engaging and interactive presentation focuses on issues with:
