Mildred Griffith donates 90th birthday money to hospital foundation

Mildred Griffith of Kincardine turned 90 years old this year and all the money donated at her birthday party has been given to the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation in support of the Kincardine hospital.

Foundation co-ordinator Diane Baldwin (above left, with Griffith), accepted the donation of $560, Monday, at the hospital.

While her birth date is actually Nov. 1, Griffith celebrated her 90th birthday with a party Oct. 22, surrounded by about 200 family and friends at the TownePlace Suites Marriott Hotel in Kincardine.

Born in Arran Township, she married Percy Griffith Nov. 30, 1946, and lived in Bervie. They raised six daughters: Marie Griffith of Sundrie, Alberta; Joanne Little of Peterborough; and Karen Shanks, Brenda Perverseff, Myrna Crawford and Dawn Senior, all of Kincardine.

Griffith's husband died in 1990, and 15 years ago, she moved to Kincardine and lives on her own in an apartment above where her daughter, Karen, lives. She now has 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She says she doesn't feel any different now that she's 90 years old. She continues her work with the Bervie Women's Institute and the Bervie United Church Women, and enjoys bowling and quilting. She also looks after the flower beds at the Bervie W.I. hall, and the flower beds in the garden at the boardwalk.

"I just like to stay busy," she says.

Baldwin thanked Griffith for the donation and said the money will go toward the next fund-raising project, a new X-ray machine, worth about $450,000, for the Kincardine hospital.
