No cause or damage estimate is yet available in a fire that destroyed a workshop on Sideroad 10, south of Millarton Thursday, Feb. 12.
Kincardine fire chief Kent Padfield said firefighters responded to the blaze at 8:15 a.m., and found a storage shed with heavy smoke conditions. Crews from Kincardine and Tiverton stations worked for several hours to extinguish the fire, with the Ripley-Huron Fire Department providing a water tanker. The fire was contained to the storage shed, and no injuries were reported.
“The extreme cold created challenges for firefighters," said Padfield. "Firefighter gear, airpacks, apparatus and fire hoses freeze, so working in the cold can be very difficult."
Due to the significant damage, the source of the fire is still undetermined, he said. An estimated value lost has not been determined.
Also on Feb. 12, at 7:42 a.m., the Kincardine fire station responded to a call, and investigated alarms sounding in a residence on Penetangore Row. The morning’s power disruption caused the accidental activation of the alarms.
And at 5:58 p.m., the Tiverton fire station responded with South Bruce OPP and Bruce County paramedics to a motor vehicle crash on Highway 21 at Concession 7.
