Blustery cold day greets crowd at Ripley Winter Carnival
There was plenty of snow for the Ripley Winter Carnival, Saturday, but it was blowing around, causing problems for motorists and anyone trying to enjoy the great outdoors.
The cold, blustery weather didn't stop people from coming out to the Ripley Complex for the many activities, unless of course, you wanted to go for a horse-drawn sleigh ride. Doug and Andrew MacDonald had "Herc" and "Toby" on hand for about an hour-and-a-half, before calling it quits because of the high wind and freezing temperature.
Inside the complex, about 350 people enjoyed breakfast, while watching hockey games between the Ripley and Kincardine Tykes and Novices. Following the games, there was a hockey skills competition, including contests in accuracy, speed and stick-handling, and then the ever-popular ice-painting.
The event also featured euchre and family bingo.
Due to the inclement weather and closed roads, the afternoon hockey games were cancelled, as was the game between the Ripley Wolves and Lucknow Lancers Saturday night.
