Cast and crew brilliantly bring romantic comedy to Kincardine Theatre Guild stage
The cast and crew of "Ten Times Two, The Eternal Courtship" are brilliant.
The costumes, the staging, the set, the actors, the scene changes - every single thing, right down to the finest detail, is superb.
The Kincardine Theatre Guild production of David Belke's epic romantic comedy, opened Thursday night at the Kincardine Arts Centre, to a substantial crowd, despite the stormy weather.
And it was worth battling the elements to watch this show.
All three actors are equally stellar, breathing life into this play which encompasses romance, comedy and time travel.
Alanna Boucher is tremendous as Constance, who catches the eye of Ephraim, perfectly portrayed by Matt Harvey. And beautifully rounding out the cast is Chris Mercanti as The Host.
The story begins in 1399 where Ephraim, an evildoer cursed with immortality, meets Constance, the barmaid. This launches a romantic pursuit spanning centuries, from the Middle Ages to Modern Times. Under the watchful eye of a mysterious "Host," the couple meets every 75 years, as Ephraim schemes to capture the heart of his quarry who reincarnates as a dizzying array of different women through the years.
In order to win her love, he must eventually learn to become a human being.
Boucher has an amazing ability to not only change her costume but change her character for each and every scene - from a barmaid to a lady of quality, to a swine-herd, to a giggling debutante, to a flapper, and on it goes. Her portrayal of the swine-herd is one of the funniest parts of the show.
Harvey and Mercanti manage to keep up with her in this fast-paced romp through time, maintaining their characters while everything around them changes.
In fact, the pace is so fast that when the lights come up for intermission, you'll wonder where the time went!
Praise goes to director Rob Millar and his assistant, Slayde Millar, for capturing the essence of this story and bringing it to the stage. Kudos also to the entire crew for putting together all the required props and costumes, the lighting and sound, that make this performance one you don't want to miss.
So, will Constance and Ephraim end up together? Get a ticket and find out. And get that ticket quickly before they're sold out.
"Ten Times Two" continues Feb. 18-21, at 8 p.m. Tickets are available at J'Adorn in downtown Kincardine or by calling 519-396-9000.
