Portion of Highway 21 remains closed as snowstorm abates

For the second day in a row, school buses were cancelled and roads remained closed in the Kincardine area Friday morning, as the severe snowstorm that struck Wednesday afternoon, finally began to ease up.

Most Bruce County roads were re-opened early Friday morning, and by 9 a.m., Highway 21 was finally open between Amberley and Owen Sound.

However, Highway 21 from Amberley to Goderich remains closed, as of 8 p.m. Friday, due to poor road conditions and nil visibility. All other roads in Huron County have been re-opened.

A snowfall warning was issued by Environment Canada, with total amounts of 15 to 20 centimetres expected Friday. Another significant snowfall is on the way overnight Friday into Saturday, as well as Saturday night. The snow is not expected to be particularly heavy, but the overall duration of the event is significant, and will give a general snowfall of 15 to 20 centimetres by the time it winds down late Saturday night.

Deteriorating winter travel conditions can be expected with snow-covered roads and reduced visibility in falling snow.

The forecast indicates warmer temperatures with light snow and flurries next week as we inch toward Christmas Day.
