Impaired driver runs from police after ditching vehicle

(MUNICIPALITY OF BROCKTON, ON)  -  Saturday, Feb. 14, at about 2:20 a.m., a South Bruce OPP officer on patrol, observed a silver 2002 Honda Civic speeding and being driven erratically southbound on Yonge Street South, Walkerton, in the Municipality of Brockton.
 

The driver had lost control of the vehicle which entered the west ditch on Highway 9 near the intersection of Concession 14 in the Municipality of South Bruce. The lone driver fled on foot. 
While fleeing from police, the suspect called 911 to report that his vehicle had been stolen. After a brief foot chase by police, the suspect was apprehended a short distance away from the collision scene.  The suspect, who had been drinking alcohol, was arrested and taken to an OPP detachment for breath tests. There were no injuries reported.
 

Benjamin Joshua REUBER, 26, of the Municipality of Brockton, was charged with several criminal offences, including: public mischief, resist peace officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, impaired driving, over 80 mgs, and fail to remain. He was also charged with careless driving and failing to report under the Highway Traffic Act.
 

The accused is scheduled to appear in court March 16, in Walkerton.
