Huron Shores Hospice receives early Christmas gift

Members of the Huron Shores Hospice steering committee have found the community response to plans for a hospice in the Kincardine area, to be gratifying.

Community Foundation of Grey Bruce has provided a substantial grant and the Municipality of Kincardine has pledged $5,000 for 2016 and another $5,000 for 2017. Commitments have also been received from Bruce Power, Bruce Telecom, and Superheat FGH.

The campaign is off to a good start, states the committee in its December newsletter. "We have so much good news that we are all positively  glowing."
 
Santa Claus brought an early Christmas gift to the committee. Duncan Hawthorne, former president and chief executive officer of Bruce Power, and his wife, Lesley (above), have pledged $30,000, in addition to the $20,000 they have already donated to the hospice project. That's a total of $50,000 to help get the hospice fund-raising off the ground.

In addition, while the Huron Shores Hospice awaits its Canada Revenue Agency charitable number, the United Way of Bruce Grey has agreed to accept donations on the committee's behalf, with a small administrative fee for the service, which is explained at the Canada Helps site.

And finally, the fund-raising steering group is excited to welcome Carol Rencheck to help with initial planning, and to tell you that three major events are planned for 2017:
 

• HIKE FOR HOSPICE - May 13
• HANDBAGS FOR HOSPICE - July 20
• GOLF TOURNAMENT - Aug. 18
