Christmas Day community meal draws about 60

The inaugural Christmas Day community meal saw 63 people served in the St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church hall in Kincardine.

The purpose of the afternoon meal was to welcome anyone who would be alone on Christmas Day, to enjoy a homemade turkey dinner, with all the trimmings, free of charge (with a freewiill offering).

Organizers said it was a great success and there are plans to offer this meal again on Christmas Day, 2017.

Thanks to the volunteers who made this Christmas Day event run so smoothly; to a Huron-Kinloss Township family that donated 100 pounds of turkey for the meal; to Sobeys and No Frills for their generous food donations; the Bulk Barn for the Christmas candy; and Best Western Plus Governor's Inn chef, Peter Webb, and his son, for cooking and preparing all the turkey and gravy.

Appreciation also goes out to the various media participants for promoting this worthwhile event.
