OPG continues to support youth basketball program in Kincardine

The popular youth basketball program in Kincardine will continue this winter, thanks to the support of Ontario Power Generation (OPG).

Lynda Cain of OPG was on hand Friday, Dec. 5, to present a donation of $3,000 to program director Ray Luinstra and treasurer Mary Lynn Young.

Luinstra said the company's generosity helps keep the entry fee at $40 per player, including a uniform, in the OPG youth basketball league which has been running for about 15 years.

Last year, there were 169 players, in Grades 5-8, enrolled in the league, said Luinstra, and 200 the year before.

"It certainly has been a successful program," he said. "We've seen youth from this league go on to Kincardine District Secondary School basketball, and this year, the senior girls advanced to OFSAA (provincial) finals, while the junior girls made it to the BAA (regional) finals.

Registration for the OPG youth basketball league's 2015 season is open now until Jan. 16. All teams are co-ed - junior is for Grades 5-6, while senior is for Grades 7-8.

Registration forms are available at the Davidson Centre or on-line at www.kincardine-youth-basketball.ca
