More should be done to improve Kincardine's beaches and harbour, says writer
To the Editor:

I had a nice walk around our beaches Wednesday (May 18), and I would like to say thank you to all who look after the municipality and make it a beautiful place to live.

As I look forward to enjoying many days at the beach, I hope the municipal staff responsible for maintenance and repairs can get an application in to have the piers and break-wall repaired. This has been a problem for many years; hence, the erosion problem along the shoreline. I think the break-wall repair could save the work that was just done to keep the beach from eroding more each year.

On my personal wish-list for our town:

  • Offer paint to the businesses that face the lake so they can brighten the lakeside of their buildings and provide a cheerful look with signs to identify the type of business, hours and phone numbers.
  • Put up a cement wall to replace the wooden one along the south pier and beach areas, similar to what Goderich has done at its harbour.
  • Have someone weed the flower beds near the Pavilion on a regular basis, and the trees in the Station Beach area.

Hiring more permanent staff would be helpful too. There is always work to do.
