Ripley Wolves post two wins over the holidays
The Ripley Wolves took over second overall in the Senior "A" hockey league with two wins over the holidays. They now lead the Tillsonburg Thunder by one point as the league enters the final month of the season.
The Wolves defeated Lucknow, 4-0, Saturday, Dec. 23, and managed to stave off a Saugeen Shores third-period comeback attempt to win, 5-4, Friday, Dec. 29.
In Ripley Saturday night, Tyson Soers led the way with two goals while Dan Nicoloff and Gerrit Satosek had singles. Assists went to Soers, Ryan Dudgeon (2), Paul Stewart and goalie Kurt Edwards, who also recorded a 31-save shutout.
In Port Elgin Friday night, the Wolves stormed out of the gate with four unanswered goals before the Winterhawks managed one at the end of the second period. Brett Catto, Dylan Sayle, Nick Seiler, and Dudgeon gave Edwards a four-goal cushion, while Shawn Stewart scored early in the third to give the Wolves a 5-2 lead.
Assists went to Cody Britton, Brent Walton (2), Shawn Stewart, Tyler DeVos, Soers, Nicoloff, and Patrick Looby.
Penalty trouble in the last 10 minutes of the game put the Wolves on their heels, and allowed the 'Hawks to net two powerplay goals to pull within one.
Edwards shut the door from there and made 30 saves for the victory.
The Wolves host Shelburne Saturday, Jan. 6, at 7 p.m. It’s Minor Hockey Night, so any young fans wearing their jersey get in free!
The Wolves then welcome Elora, Sunday, Jan. 7, at 4:30 p.m. It’s Tyke Day, so come cheer on our future Wolves in between periods.
