Tundra Taters take on Bruce Power in support of Kincardine Minor Hockey

The Tundra Taters faced off against the Bruce Power Nighthawks, March 8, at the Davidson Centre in Kincardine.

While Bruce Power won the game, 13-11, the real winner was Kincardine Minor Hockey as the Taters donated $100 per goal, for a total of $2,400.

Skating with the Taters, was NHL legend Wendel Clark who also spent some time prior to the game, skating with youth and adults, and later posed for photos and signed autographs.

This is the second year in a row, the Taters have come to Kincardine, bringing their love for hockey, their star player, and a donation for minor hockey.

The Taters are touring the country to raise money and awareness for minor hockey in Canada. It’s widely known that Canada’s national winter sport is expensive to play. But various factors have conspired over the past 10-15 years to make minor hockey dramatically more expensive, pricing out many families, and enrolment is suffering as a result.

It’s a development that threatens the sport’s blue-collar roots, including the idea that the next Clark or Wayne Gretzky will come from backgrounds as modest as theirs were.

The donation by the Taters is ear-marked for programs that support families in need.
