Almost 500 registered for 2019 Kincardine Women's Triathlon
Almost 500 athletes have signed up for this year's Kincardine Women's Triathlon, slated to run July 13 at Station Beach, Kincardine.
The event features a 350-metre swim, 12-kilometre bike ride, and three-kilometre run. Athletes can also enter the duathlon or relay events.
Registration opened New Year's Day, and filled up within a few hours.
“The triathlon is sold out, and since we're not having a waiting list, we added 25 more spots which are also gone too,” said race director Vy Waller. “We have almost 500 registered for the event - the highest number we have ever had and very close to our capacity.”
Waller said the new executive has made some changes to the race to make it more women-friendly since that is the focus of the event.
“We pride ourselves on an inclusive race for women of all ages and abilities,” she said. “Our race is a not-for-profit event and we donate to primarily two local charities.”
This year, there will be a couple of porta-potties in the transition area for those who need them during transitions, as well as at other locations, said Waller. Plus, there will be two women announcers which was a suggestion by race participants.

Again this year, the executive is extending the number and type of vendors at the event which has been well-received, said Waller. “We use local businesses as much as we can for all our prizes and orders for T-shirts, water bottles, etc., and we advertise the Blues Fest on our website to entice people to stay and enjoy our community.
“We really appreciate how local businesses support this race. Without them and the volunteers, this race could not happen.
