Young people showed respect at local Remembrance Day ceremony
To the Editor:
This morning, at our local Remembrance Day ceremony, I was so impressed by the young people who stood in the cold and snow, surrounded by seniors.
When our national anthem was sung, they all removed their hats in respect. They stood in total silence during the two moments of silence, and during the laying of the wreaths.
And, then when “God Save the Queen” was sung, they looked around at those of us who were singing, with respect. I’m not sure they even knew what we were singing or why.
All too often, our world wonders what has happened to our young people. We hear of their disrespect; that they do not embrace the past.
Today, I experienced the opposite, first-hand. Our young people, the ones who came to celebrate 101 years since the Great War ended, are in a word - amazing. It was a joy to participate in the service with them.
