COMPUTER REPAIR SCAM
(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) – The South Bruce OPP is sending another warning for residents to watch for cons and scams following two more reports on the computer repair scam.
Both reports were received June 1 - one from a resident in the Municipality of Brockton, the other from a resident of Arran-Elderslie Township. In both cases, the scam was successful and access was granted to the computer.
The computer repair scam has been operating for a long time. If you feel that your computer needs service, consult a reputable repair technician – don’t allow a stranger on the phone to access your computer.
Fraud is a multi-million-dollar enterprise that will only stop when the scammers stop making money. Trust your instincts, not the stranger on the phone, sending the E-mails or standing at your door.
