Readers weigh in on closed beaches in Kincardine area
To the Editor:
RE: “Station Beach, Kincardine, vacant on beautiful Victoria Day weekend”
It has been really difficult to know whether or not our beaches are open.
Earlier this week, we were told that they were open for exercising, dog-walking and for surfing, paddle-boarding, etc.
All of a sudden, that changed late in the week.
Some people might have heard one report and not the other.
I believe that it was CTV that had a segment earlier in the week, interviewing one of our local paddle-boarders and declaring that yes, the Kincardine beaches were now open.
Anyone surprised that there is confusion?

To the Editor:
I understand that the intent of the public health order to close all beaches in Grey-Bruce, is to discourage human congregation. I also realize warmer weather draws many of us to the beautiful beaches of Grey-Bruce.
However, restricting all human activity on our beaches seems draconian. Walking the beach can be done safely with the same social-distancing protocol as elsewhere.
My Huron-Kinloss home is adjacent to the beach. One of my passions is windsurfing. I love the sport. Indeed, windsurfing is why I purchased my home many years ago.
It’s my only home. I’m able to rig a sail on my lawn, walk the short path from my front lawn to the beach, step on my board and sail. It’s wonderful!
Our Lake Huron windsurfing season is already a short one. Nevertheless, as painful as this order is, I will obey it and stay off the beach and water until the public health order is revoked.
Stay safe and healthy everyone.
