Kincardine woman raises $4,000 in Walk to End ALS
Pam Janecek, 76, of Kincardine was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig's Disease) in July, 2019.
To celebrate the fact that she is still on her feet a year later, she took to the sidewalk in downtown Kincardine, joining the virtual Walk to End ALS, and raised $4,000 for the ALS Society of Canada.
Surrounded by family, friends and supporters, as “Team Nini” (her grandchildren call her Nini), Janecek began her walk beside the office of Ottewell Lynn Frook Mullen, just north of Lambton Street, and walked to the Kincardine Library, almost a half-kilometre.
It took about 15-20 minutes, but a triumphant Janecek reached the finish line, and while she was hot and tired, she was thrilled that she has beaten the odds against ALS.
She was also excited to have her children and grandchildren, from Atlanta, Georgia, and Sedona, Arizona, join her for the event, through the magic of technology.
