Purple Grove news

Well, there was no shortage of things to do on the weekend despite the inclement weather, so hopefully, everyone enjoyed what was available either indoors or outdoors. It's sure a challenge for the farmers to hit it right for getting the hay off the fields in good condition.

Linda and Diane Gottschalk visited with Largaret McInnes on the weekend at her home in Kincardine.

Our sympathy goes out to Harvey and Betty Needham and the Hollands families on the passing of Louis Needham-Hollands.

Wednesday, the Ripley Horticultural Society held a successful Flower Show and Tea with a good attendance at the arena in Ripley. Thanks to the ladies for hosting and to those participating making it a fun day.

Mary Anne Kukoly visited with Ruth McCosh in Goderich on Friday, and had an enjoyable lunch.

It is good to see such great community support for our local gals and this time it was for bride-elect Dr. Robyn Thompson, daughter of Brian and Betty Anne Thompson. A fun time was held at the bridal shower, Saturday in the community room at the Ripley Complex.

The Rhine River Cruisers have returned home from a wonderful time vacationing abroad.

The Planning Committee met at the home of Marilyn Reid, Thursday, to compile the agenda for the Purple Grove Women's Institute's 2015-2016 meetings. We are always looking for new members and new ideas, we are extending a warm welcome to anyone who would be interested in either joining or just coming out and seeing what the institute is all about.  As an institute, the women have been responsible for getting a lot of important issues accomplished over the years and there is still a lot to do yet. It is truly amazing the strength we have as a united front and many don't realize how much we have been involved in, and still are.

School is out and we wish to congratulate all the students graduating from Grade 8 this year at the Ripley-Huron Community School. It is exciting to move forward and see what challenges lie ahead for those students. Enjoy your summer!

Once again, the members of St. Andrew's United Church provided a bountiful Barbecued Ham Supper, Sunday at the Ripley Arena. It was well-attended and everyone enjoyed getting together to meet and visit for a while.

Saturday night, many from the community and far away gathered at the Anglican Parish Hall in Kincardine to celebrate Bonnie Boyle's 60th birthday. Congratulations, Bonnie!

Recent visitors with Carman and Cheryl Bridge, were Ron and Diane Ellis of Auburn, and Kyle, Holly and wee Gavin.

Looking forward to celebrating Canada Day festivities Wednesday; hopefully, the weather will co-operate and we will be able to enjoy the many fireworks displays being put on around the area. Be safe and enjoy the days ahead.
