A good crowd gathered in downtown Kincardine for the first Cruise Night of the summer, Friday evening.

The event began with a surprise Flash Mob, as members of the Kincardine Community Concert Band entertained with a couple of tunes at the corner of Lambton and Queen Streets. The band is hosting its summer series, Music in the Park, Wednesday nights at Dunsmoor Park, beginning July 1, at 7:30 p.m.

The downtown was filled with antique, vintage and fancy cars and motorcycles.

One highlight was a 1934 Dual Cowl Packard Phaeton from the Lang Collection in Walkerton. Considered by some to be the ultimate V-12, the 1934 model was the last Packard featuring the classic swept fender, as future models were more streamlined.

The interior is equally as elegant with a walnut trim and many luxurious appointments. The V-12 has 160 horsepower, 445.5 cubic inch displacement, with banks of cylinders at 67 degrees. Maximum speed of 93 miles per hour, and weighs more than 6,100 pounds. The sales slogan was "Ask a man who owns one."

Members of the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation were on hand, selling 50-50 tickets. The winner was Terri Hogsden of Ripley who took home $1,050.

The remaining Cruise Nights of the season will be July 31 and Sept. 4, from 6--9 p.m., in downtown Kincardine.
