A lazy few ruin cardboard-recycling depot for the rest, says reader

To the Editor:
RE: "Kincardine removes cardboard-recycling bins beside Beef Way"

WAY TO GO FOLKS! Just because a few (and there were more than a few) people were too lazy, or too cheap, or too ignorant, to take the cardboard to the Kincardine landfill site when the cardboard recycling dumpsters at The Beef Way were full, ALL residents are now forced to take their cardboard to the dump.

The owners of The Beef Way had kindly allowed five or six cardboard-recycling bins on their properly. These bins helped to make our municipality clean and attractive. Some ignorant people were not reading or obeying the signs, stating that no cardboard should be left OUTSIDE the bins, and piles of cardboard were then left outside the bins when they were full, and this ended up being messy situation.

It can’t be more than four kilometres to the dump from The Beef Way, and it is a nice drive. Yet, people noticing the cardboard bins were full, would just dump their cardboard, and sometimes their household garbage at the bins instead of taking the time to drive out to the dump.

I don’t blame The Beef Way or the municipality for removing these recycling bins. Not only were they an unsightly mess, I wouldn’t want to be the employees who had to manually pick up all the soggy, wet cardboard, plus the garbage that some ignorant people left lying on the ground outside the recycling bins.

Why is it that whenever we, the citizens, get a service or privilege provided to us at no cost, there seems to be a FEW ignoramuses who always ruin a good thing, and the nice service that was provided gets removed so that ALL lose that privilege?

By the way, my language in this letter may seem strong to some, but it would be much stronger if I were on the scene at the bins and observed these ignorant people messing up our beautiful environment here in Kincardine and Bruce County.
